The state of community public Parks and Recreation services has evolved greatly over the past 30 years. The past traditional view of recreation has been activities and programs for youth focusing on sports and summer playgrounds, as well as senior citizens in segregated seniors only centers.
Today, communities focus on being “livable” not just in terms of housing, equality of education, transportation and safety but in terms of a sense of place and belonging; a place for families to engage in active living and healthy lifestyles. Quality-of-Life attributes are very important for both families and businesses that comprise the community.
